RIEU’S ROOTS
The waltz king André Rieu returns to his birthplace Maastricht every summer with his Johann Strauss Orchestra. The Vrijthof square becomes the backdrop for a huge open-air concert filled with delightful melodies and lots of romance!
TEFAF (THE EUROPEAN FINE ART FAIR)
The most prestigious Fine Art Fair in the world. Presenting 260 of the world’s leading galleries from 20 countries, TEFAF Maastricht showcases some of the best works of art currently on the market for 10 days each year. The art fair attracts more than 72.000 visitors over 10 days.
MEUSE RIVER
The Meuse is a major European river, rising in France and flowing through Belgium and the Netherlands before draining into the North Sea. It has a total length of 925 km (575 mi) and the Meuse is the oldest river in the world.
MAASTRICHT TREATY
Signed on 7 February 1992 by the members of the European Community in Maastricht. It created the European Union and led to the creation of the single European currency, the Euro.
