Prof. Maarten Altelaar
Maarten Altelaar is Professor of Pharmaceutical Proteomics at Utrecht University, where his group specializes in the development and use of novel mass spectrometry-based proteomics technologies for the detailed characterization of proteins, protein complexes and their post-translational modifications (PTMs). Besides his position at the Utrecht University, he is currently heading the proteomics facility at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) and he is the treasurer of the International Mass Spectrometry Foundation (IMSF).
His research interest lies at the border of proteomics method development and application in the field of cancer proteomics focusing on drug resistance and immunotherapy response. As such his group has pioneered targeted MS approaches to study phosphorylation dynamics throughout cellular signaling pathways and to assess kinome-wide activation states. Moreover, he is developing a clinical/translational proteomics track, working on proteomics analysis of patient derived tissues, plasma and extracellular vesicles.
